The TAC-44 is a full cartridge design. It is a dual stationary multi spring seal with a four-bolt stuffing box arrangement. It is a double pressure balanced design. The TAC-44 has flush, quench, and drain ports. The TAC-44 utilizes tangential flush ports in combination with a pumping ring to increase the flow of flush media through the seal. Two tangential flush ports are machined into the seal for both directions of rotation. These two key features increase the effectiveness of the flush and helps lower the heat generated by the faces.
Thomson Advanced Cartridge Thermal Management Technology
The TAC-44 is also equipped with a restriction bushing to restrict the flow of media in case of seal failure. All of AR Thomson Groups ANSI mechanical seals are balanced seals and feature monolithic faces, thermal management technology, and stationary spring designs. Monolithic faces have proven to be more resistant to distortion from higher temperature or pressure applications. The thermal management technology removes heat from the faces and distributes it to other areas of the seal and stuffing box. This removal of the heat allows for some intermittent flow of liquid between the faces (dry running). Stationary spring designs are self aligning and allow for some alignment issues and improper installation.
The TAC-44 design is excellent for process pumps, clean to light slurry, water/wastewater, pulp & paper, and irrigation systems. This seal can be complimented with AR Thomson Groups plan 53A tank system. It is available in many different metallurgies, elastomers, and face combinations to meet the specifications of your application.
Performance limits depend on many factors, including but not limited to: Equipment condition, correct installation and commissioning, maintenance of support systems, pumped media and seal materials. If in doubt please consult A.R. Thomson Group mechanical seal department.
